The 5 Different “Design Levels” (Levels in Design)

Also known as “Degree of complications in designing a basement”

To know your taste and what to expect from me is Important information and all comes from your design level choice, not just in providing a free quote to do your design but making you a professional design your way and to your desires which are levels in design detail added as in (good/better/best) categories or considered levels of design implementation (my time designing). In terms of budget for construction cost, adding fancy things to the design also adds more cost to build it. Beware; I’m well known for not making a basement look like a typical basement does!

So for some fun and not just to entertain you here; I’ve linked below images from real designs I’ve done as 3D viewing examples in a slide show below for each “design level” from A-E, not only for you to see what to expect from me when I design for you but of course to show off my workmanship with cool design features. From a basic design to very fancy in other words. Please review each one of these 5 choices so you may indicate in your wish list (download and save) or in your email to me what level of finish & workmanship you are looking for in the design I will produce and so I know a rough idea of what you’re thinking, what you expect from me and then how to quote your design based on the finished square footage area for design.

Basements are complicated as with must construction projects. There are too many factors to consider and it’s only fair I see photos first and determine the size I’m working with as well as knowing what you want in the space, how you’re using the basement and how basic or how fancy you want it to appear. FYI; a larger work screen may be more helpful. I’d suggest the use of a normal desktop PC, laptop or tablet but nothing smaller than a iPad or tablet so you may complete this process easier. Read each design level description first before viewing each slide show CAD 3D graphic example.

My free quote does become the fee agreement between us and once you review it and then decide to sign up with me, I use this design level choice in that agreement not just for cost but so we both remain on the same page throughout this cool virtual planning design by email process I’ve perfected since 2001. Please Review & Choose A Design Level!

Note: Bathrooms, bedrooms, office, workout rooms, game/play areas, craft rooms if any are included in all design level plans and based on your request. Design Levels C-E are allowed to have 2 baths on the designs which can include a five piece custom bath with steam room or sauna. Design Level D-E are allowed private home theater rooms but all plans can have a shared entertainment/TV area. Design Level “A” : This is a very basic design with no extra features designed other than standard rooms, small service/mini bar if any, 1/2 or 3/4 bath and basic soffit boxing in around air ducts, beams and pipes. No fireplace or crown moldings, wainscoting and so on just basically designed yet complete to permit and build from. Indicate “A” in your wish list or reply back if you want a basic plan designed and on a very low cost budget! This will not include a Home Theater Room other than a general shared open large screen TV-entertainment area, without crown molding, stone, brick or wood panel details. Basic with no built-ins as well!
Design Level “B” : This is an average level design which will have additional ceiling treatments-soffits (limited 1 step types & no rope lighting effects, no coffered or tray types ceilings) but designed to create optical illusions to allow your basement to NOT look like a basically designed basement. It includes all rooms, normal 2-4 stool bar and wine storage cabinets if any; bath, and standard basic fireplace feature if any. Indicate “B” in your wish list or reply back if you want an average level plan designed and concerned of budget! This will not include a Private Home Theater Room other than a general shared open large screen TV-entertainment area, none to little use of crown molding or wood panel details. Some built-ins, some use of brick and stone allowed! This is sometimes the common type requested and for many clients have a touch of my unique “Wow” factor effect!
Design Level “C”: This is an above average level “1″ detailed design which will have additional ceiling treatments-soffits ( many extra 2 step types & rope lighting effects, no coffered or tray types) in the design to create optical illusions extending the amount of detail I put into an average level designed basement. It includes all rooms, custom bar and wine storage if any, not wine room but wine closet/racks, 1 or 2 baths, and fireplace feature if any. Indicate “C” in your wish list or reply back if you want an above average level 1 plan type designed and still concerned of budget! This will not include a Private Home Theater Room other than a more detailed shared open large screen TV-entertainment area. But does allow crown molding and or some wood panel details. Most built-ins, art niches and some use of wood beams, brick and or stone allowed! This is the most common type requested and will have an above average “Wow” factor of some degree!

Design Level “D” : This is an above average level “2″ detailed design which will have all additional ceiling treatments-soffits (some 2 step types, tray, coffered & rope lighting effects) soffits in the design to create optical illusions extending the amount of detail I put into an average level 1 designed basement. It includes all rooms, larger custom bar and wine room if any, 1 or 2 custom baths, and high end fireplace feature if any. Many built in features, niches and such. Indicate “D” in your wish list or reply back if you want an above average level 2 type plan designed and somewhat concerned of budget! This can include a typical Private Home Theater Room and or a nicely detailed shared open large screen TV-entertainment area. But does allow much use of crown molding, columns and additional use of wood panel details. Most built-ins, art niches, wood beams, brick and stone allowed! This is also a normal custom type requested for only you and will have a very affective above average “Wow” factor!
Design Level “E”: This is truly “Thee” high end level detailed top of the line design which will have any type of additional ceiling treatments-soffits (any 2 step types, tray, coffered & rope lighting effects) soffits in the design to create optical illusions extending the amount of detail I put into any of the other levels of designed basements. It includes all rooms, huge custom detailed bar and wine cellar if any, 1, 2 or 3 baths, and special fireplace features if any. Any type of coffered, chamfered, tray and or cathedral/fancy ceilings. Many built in features, niches and such.. Indicate ‘E” in your wish list or reply back if you want a very high end detailed level plan designed and not really concerned of budget! This can include a custom Private Home Theater Room, special lighting and or a dressed up shared open large TV-entertainment/theater area. But does allow all use of any crown molding, columns and any heavy use of wood panel details. Any built-ins, , art niches, wood beams, brick and stone allowed! This is not a normal custom type requested, it’s very customized for only you and will have an extremely impressive “Wow” factor!
